About US Rent Tools

US Rent Tools is an independent calculator site for renters and landlords in the United States. It provides free, client-side calculators for prorated rent, rent caps, security deposits, late fees, move-in costs, and lease renewals, together with plain-language guides that explain the formulas and the verified state rules behind them.

What this site does

Each calculator does arithmetic: it takes the figures you enter, applies the formula shown on the page, and shows the result with its working. The guides explain what prorated rent, rent caps, deposits, and late fees mean, how the verified state rules work, and what to check in your lease and in the official source for your city and state. The site is designed to be clear, fast, and usable without an account.

What this site does not do

This site does not provide legal advice, does not act as a lawyer, landlord, agent, or housing authority, and does not decide whether a particular charge, increase, or deduction is lawful in your case. Calculators show arithmetic for the rules they state; coverage, notice validity, exemptions, and local ordinances can change the answer and must be checked in the official source. If a deadline is near, an amount is large, or a dispute is already underway, consider contacting a local housing organization or a qualified professional.

No invented credentials

We do not claim author credentials, awards, user counts, or endorsements that we do not have. The authority for a rule on this site is the official source cited for that rule — the statute, ordinance, or official guide — not this site itself. Our methodology page lists every verified rule, its source, and what is not covered, so you can check our work.

How the site is funded and built

The calculators run in your browser. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no external scripts, fonts, or tracking on the tool pages, and the tools do not send the figures you enter to a server. See the privacy page for details. The site’s design is intentionally simple so that pages load quickly and the answer, the formula, and the source are easy to find.

Questions or corrections are welcome via the contact page. If you spot an error in a formula or a rule, please tell us the page, the figure, and the official source you checked, so we can verify and correct it.
